FAQ

SolGuardian UV-C Light Sterilizer Wand

Q: How does the sterilizer wand work?

A: It works by emitting UV-C light with a peak wavelength of 270 nanometers.  This particular type of light energy breaks down the DNA and RNA of viruses and bacteria.  The process is similar to a sunburn but microbes have less protection from these types of light waves and are damaged after a short exposure to it. This prevents the microbes from reproducing, effectively rendering unable to infect, thus sterilizing the surface.  A dose of UV-C light for 60 seconds from the SolGuardian is sufficient to sterilize 99.9% of bacteria and viruses.

Q: How do I use the sterilizer wand?

A: PLEASE READ THE INCLUDED INSTRUCTION MANUAL FULLY BEFORE USING THE SOLGUARDIAN FOR THE FIRST TIME.  The following instructions are not intended as a replacement for reading the manual but provide general usage instructions.  IMPORTANT! Please put on the included UV safety glasses before turning on the SolGuardian wand to protect your eyes.  Then, while directing the light away from people or pets press down the power button and hold it for five seconds to turn the light on.  Next use the light for the designated dosage time.  The light is designed to automatically Finally hold the power button for one second to turn  it back off.

Q: Is UV-C light safe to use?

A: As long as the proper safety precautions are taken the SolGuardian wand is safe to use.  UV blocking glasses are included in our kit and the built-in safety sensor automatically shuts the light off if it is tilted upwards.  Additionally, the light is designed to shut off after 60 seconds of use as a visual indication that the target area has been sterilized.  The instruction manual includes these precautions so read the manual before using the wand for the first time.

Q: How do I know if I am using the wand properly?

A: Although UV-C wavelengths are not very visible, the SolGuardian is designed to emit a small amount of visible blue light (UV-A) that gently illuminates the target area. This light is an indication that the SolGuardian is irradiating and sterilizing the target area. The target area should be irradiated for 60 seconds to eliminate 99.9% of microbes.  The light will shut off automatically after 60 seconds as a visual indicator that the surface has been sterilized.

Q: Is this safe to use on food?

A: The wand is safe to use on food. A study by the National Center for Biotechnology Information found that UV-C light was effective in killing common bacteria on produce such as E Coli.

Q: How do I clean the wand?

A: Use common household disinfectants to wipe the surfaces of the wand. Be sure not to submerge the wand in liquids in the process of cleaning it.

Q: Is it safe to touch things after exposing them to UV light?

A: Yes, using the wand is just like an accelerated process of leaving items in the sun to disinfect them. Once the light is no longer irradiating the objects to be disinfected they are perfectly safe to touch.

Q: Do I need to do anything to prepare a surface?

A: Clearing a surface of any debris or obstructions is all that needs to be done. Anything that prevents the light from hitting the desired surface to be disinfected should be removed.

Q: What maintenance needs to be performed on the wand?

A: The wand should be cleaned and charged periodically. To preserve the battery life it is not recommended to leave the wand plugged in for long periods of time.

Q: Will the SolGuardian help remove odors?

A: The wand can inactivate odor causing bacteria, but won’t remove dirt or dust.

Q: What surfaces is the wand effective on?

A: The SolGuardian wand is effective on a variety of common surfaces including, but not limited to:

  • Fabric
  • Wood
  • Screens
  • Metal
  • Stone
  • Plastic

Q: Can the wand sanitize my hands?

A: No, the wand is not intended to be used on skin, and can cause sunburn if skin exposed to it for too long.

Q: Will the wand kill COVID-19?

A: UV-C light has been shown to inactivate COVID-19 type coronaviruses.
